As Jazz gradually sweeps back into popular consciousness, with Brownswood-signed acts like Kokoroko and Kamaal Williams capturing the imagination of millions, it remains to be seen who will make this wave’s defining, markedly modern albums. Chicago collective Resavoir look like a strong contender; their music has all the characterful, improvisational flair that new Jazz fans hanker for, laid into a thoughtful, subtle bed of production. The key to their immediately intriguing sound is its technique; producer Will Willer took inspiration from his previous hip hop work, bringing sample-sketches to his bandmates and overdubbing their responses. We await their debut album with baited breath but until then, here’s ‘Resavoir’. – Will Soer
